Frequently Answered Questions

Q: How does it work?
A: Shops and retailers are prepared to offer a percentage of their sales to other web sites which direct shoppers to them, as a way of saying 'thank you'. We have built a really nifty search tool which can find shops and products easily and offers you the opportunity to redirect that 'advertising' money to a charity that is close to your heart.

Q: How do I raise money for my favourite charity with SurfGiver?
A: It's simple! Select your charity from the dropdown menu above, then select your the shop you would like to go to from the dropdown list of shops, or search for it using our nifty search tool. Click on that shop and it will direct you to the retailers website where, by purchasing the item, you will be giving money to your charity.

Q: Where does the money come from?
A: The money comes from the retailer, it is not added to your purchase price and if you didn't use SurfGiver then the retailer would keep that percentage.
Q: How much can I generate for my charity or school by shopping through SurfGiver?
A: Millions! Ok, maybe not millions right away, but the sky is the limit. On average the commission on a product is 3%, so if a product costs £20 then £0.80 is paid back to SurfGiver and directed to the charity. Lets say you bought a flat screen TV or an iMac for £1000, suddenly the donation is £40. Add all these together and multiply it by a few supporters over a few months and we all start to change the world.
SurfGiver does retain a small percentage (10%) of each commission to continue the service and provide future developments.
Q: Does this cost me more than buying directly from the retailer?
A: NO. Not at all. In fact if you didn't buy through SurfGiver then the retailer would keep the money that would be given to a charity/non-profit through SurfGiver.
Q: Is shopping through SurfGiver secure?
A: YES, absolutely. We only hold your basic information and never receive any of your credit card or purchasing details.
Q: When does my selected charity receive the money from my purchase?
A: Your seleceted charity will receive the money on a monthly basis, unless there has not been sufficient funds generated to warrant a transfer. We have a very clever automated system that will transfer the money to the charities and provide them with a statement outlining their donations.
Q: Do all purchases qualify for a donation?
A: All purchases made on websites that are found through SurfGiver will qualify for a donation. The retailers do have certain guidelines and conditions which we make every effort to meet. Some larger companies with different online departments offer commission on the departments that SurfGiver links to but not nessisarily others.

Q: How can I make the most out of SurfGiver?
A: There are a lot of ways to get more out of SurfGiver. Visit our 'Hints and Tips' page or sign up for our users newsletter which offers many great ways to make more money for your cause.

Charities and Non-Profits
Q: Will this cost us anything as a charity or non-profit?
A: No, nothing at all. We have developed the platform for users to direct a percentage (average of 3% but as high as 10%) of the purchase price of any item from any shop found with our search tool to you. This money is built into the price of the item and costs the purchaser NOTHING EXTRA.
Q: How does SurfGiver make any money?
A: We retain a small percentage (10%) of of each commission paid. Again, this costs the charity and the user nothing at all.
Q: What types of organisations are eligible?
A: All organisations with charitable status are eligible. Other organisations such as schools and non-profits are welcome too. Our main criteria for inclusion is "Are you benefitting humankind?" Each submission is verified and we reserve the right to deny any organisation inclusion on this website.
Q: Is SurfGiver only in the United Kingdom?
A: So far the answer is YES, but we are in the process of developing the site and tools for international use. Please check back regularily and contact us if you would like to see SurfGiver in your country.
Q: Is SurfGiver secure? What bank details will I have to give?
A: You can give as much or as little as you like. If you would like the money to be transfered via BACS then we need basic banking details - only enough to deposit money into your account. All banking information is encrypted on our server. We don't sell or distribute your details so they are safe with us.
Q: How can I add a charity to your list?
A: Go to our sign up page here and register your charity. Easy.
Q: How long will it take for my charity to be in the database?
A: We need to verify each charity before inclusion in our database, but it shouldn't take more than a day
Q: When will my charity/non-profit receive money?
A: Your charity will receive the money on a monthly basis, unless there has not been sufficient funds generated to warrant a transfer or cheque. We have a very clever automated system that will transfer the money to your charity and provide you with a statement outlining the donations.
Q: How do I change my organisation's contact information?
A: SurfGiver has a really simple 'Control Panel' which you will have access to once you sign up. You can easily change banking details, contact details, logo, and charity descriptions.
Q: How can I promote SurfGiver to my supporters?
A: We have many tools for you to use to promote SurfGiver to your supporters. We provide each charity/non-profit with a specific 'homepage' (eg: www.surfgiver.com/org/charityname/ ) which supporters can use to go directly to a SurfGiver page dedicated to that charity. We have a newsletter for charities which gives many more great hints and tips on promoting SurfGiver to supporters.
